This time we spend together is entirely exclusive to you. It is an opportunity to reflect on past and present challenges, gain a fresh perspective, and develop the tools and strategies to live a more resourceful life. Being understood at a deep level can lift feelings of powerlessness and give you greater energy.
Therapy is an excellent step towards taking care of yourself, even if you are not in crisis. It can help improve mental health, create and maintain meaningful relationships, and deal with problematic behaviours, beliefs, and feelings. Many everyday people seek therapy to help them reach specific goals or deal with everyday problems.
I believe therapy is a journey of self-discovery, where we can learn how to communicate our emotions more honestly and relate to others effectively. We can become aware of negative patterns of behaviour that hold us back in life and develop strategies to change how we operate in our world, improving our relationships and giving us a sense of well-being.
To clarify, counselling works with what you are already aware of (the cognitive), and psychotherapy works with the unconscious processes (what you're not yet aware of). Whether you are experiencing a crisis or want to explore your unconscious processes, therapy can be a route to renewal, a second chance, or a life-enhancing experience.
A recommendation will be made on the length of therapy best suited to the nature of your concerns. This could be short-term (10-16 sessions), long-term (1 year or more), or open-ended (ongoing with in-built reviews).
